Bloomberg:
A nationalist group called the Thai Patriot Network plans to gather 10,000 people in front of Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva’s office on Aug. 7 unless authorities clarify the status of a border dispute with Cambodia, the Bangkok Post reported today, citing Veera Somkwamkid, the group’s leader.
“We don’t see that as a violation of the decree as long as there are clearly established guidelines,” government spokesman Panitan Wattanayagorn said by phone today. “In the past few weeks, demonstrations have been allowed briefly.”
Prachatai has a story on the "treatment" faced by one student in Chiang Rai who gathered with others to hold signs for 10 minutes to protest against the State of Emergency and the deaths of the reds in Bangkok. The opening:
The high school student charged with violating the Emergency Decree has undergone a psychological examination and is scheduled to receive psychotherapy for two days.
On 2 Aug, the 16 year-old Grade 11 student, who joined four college students on 16 July to protest against the decree and the government crackdown on demonstrations at Ratchaprasong, underwent a psychological examination by officials of the Juvenile Observation and Protection Centre.
It took the student more than 3 hours to complete the psychological tests, which included answering questions, and drawing and matching pictures, which he assumed were to test his rationality. After the tests, the officials instructed him to report for psychotherapy on 16-17 Aug, from 9 am to 4 pm
BP: Prachatai have a scanned copy of the letter from the Juvenile Observation and Protection Centre. So if the authorities don't like what you are protesting against, they will compel you to undertake psychological evaluation? Isn't this another instance of double standards because one protest group is "more equal" than another?
