Thaksin's lawyer petitions prosecutors

A lawyer for fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra on Tuesday submitted a petition to the Office of the Attorney General, asking it to question six more witnesses before deciding whether to indict Thaksin on a terrorism charge.

Thanadet Pungpoon said in the petition that the Department of Special Investigation had asked the OAG to indict 25 suspects without questioning Thaksin's witnesses and this was unfair to the former prime minister.

He asked the OAG to question six more defence witnesses, most of them Puea Thai Party MPs and including Suchart Lainamngern and Chusak Sirinil.

If the petition was turned down, the witnesses would be called to testify in court.

Mr Thanadet said Thaksin had nothing to do with the activities of the leaders of the United Front for Democracy against Dicatorship .

The former prime minister had sent his messages via phone-in and video-link to UDD protesters and leaders only to give them moral support, the lawyer said.

Panupong Chotisin, deputy director-general of the Special Cases Litigation Department, accepted the petition for consideration.
